Museums of the Future: Between Promise and Damnation

Texts — 2020

The book The Museum of the Future: 43 Contributions to the Discussion on the Future of the Museum was published in 1970 so as to present some ideas on the expected and desired development of this institution. Fifty years later, in 2020, a “revision”, which took the same idea as a starting point was edited by the Austrian collective schnitt ausstellungstheorie & praxis and Joachim Baur. The book gathers 43 new contributions by international authors—I was honored to be one of them—from various fields of museum practice, theory, education, art, and architecture outline concrete visions of a museum of the future: confident and doubtful, critical, clearly positioned, and subjective.
