ArtFile is Mela Dávila Freire

For a number of years, I have had intense professional involvement with the dissemination of contents related to contemporary art, through different ways. It all started off as I got my first job in a museum, back in 1996, when I enroled the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (Santiago de Compostela) as a publications coordinator. Some time later I moved on to a new center specializing in multimedia art, MECAD – Media Centre d’Art i Disseny, where it was my job to organize and coordinate the center’s exhibition, public program and publishing activities, both off- and online.

I 2000, I joined the staff of MACBA – Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona in the role of Head of Publications.

And then, at the end of 2007, I took up the direction of a new area of the museum: the MACBA Study Center, encompassing a large reference library, an archive of original documents related to contemporary art, and an incipient collection of artist publications. It was my responsibility to expand and enlarge these areas, as well as to launch activities and resources supporting specialized research and the production of knowledge.

In the summer of 2012 I left the MACBA and Barcelona and moved permanently to Hamburg, Germany, where I continue to research, write and work, now as an independent professional,  in relation to my areas of professional expertise: content dissemination, art archives, artist publications
